There are certain collabs that feel like they just make sense — moments where two worlds meet and history practically signs itself. That’s exactly what happened when Mass Appeal and Marvel teamed up to drop Legend Has It #1, a limited-edition comic book that reimagines Hip-Hop icons as full-fledged superheroes.

Reviewed and revealed at New York Comic Con 2025 — the Mecca for everything comics, cosplay, artistry, and creativity — this project quickly became one of the most talked-about releases of the year. Comic Con is where collectors meet culture, and this issue was one of those rare gems that bridges generations.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it this year. What makes that sting even more is that this is the exact year I should’ve been there — recovering from back surgery forced me to sit out what might’ve been one of the biggest crossover moments of the decade. Still, I wasn’t about to miss out completely. Thankfully, Mass Appeal’s site had a few copies still available— and I grabbed mine without hesitation.
A Tribute to Legends, Told in Panels
The comic pays tribute to seven of New York’s most legendary Hip-Hop artists — Nas & DJ Premier, Ghostface Killah, Mobb Deep, Raekwon, Big L, De La Soul, and Slick Rick — reimagined as larger-than-life heroes in their own universe.

Blending Marvel’s cinematic storytelling with Mass Appeal’s cultural authenticity, Legend Has It #1 doesn’t just look good — it feels good. The artwork by Sanford Greene (with colors by Rachelle Rosenberg) hits like a classic album cover: every line has purpose, every color screams legacy.

For those who know, this isn’t just a comic. It’s Hip-Hop meeting mythology, and Queens meeting Marvel Universe-level storytelling.
Nas Is Still Building
And let’s not act like Nas hasn’t been on an absolute roll this year. Between his nonstop lineup of projects under Mass Appeal Records, the Queens Casino deal that made headlines, and this partnership with Marvel — this man is building empires in real time.

The crazy part? Each move still feels rooted in culture. It’s bigger than business; it’s representation. It’s Hip-Hop being treated with the same reverence as superheroes — because truth be told, that’s exactly what these artists have always been.
For the Collectors
If you’re a true fan of Hip-Hop or comics — or better yet, both — this is the kind of drop you don’t just read. You preserve it. Case it up. Frame it. Then if you ever get the chance, get it signed by everyone in this comic book 🤯

This is a moment in cultural history. The kind of collaboration that’ll have your kids or grandkids saying, “Wait… Marvel made a comic with Nas?”
You can still find limited copies floating around, but don’t count on that lasting long. When art meets authenticity like this, it doesn’t sit on shelves. It sells out, and then it becomes legend — literally.
Between the pen, the panels, and the progress, Legend Has It #:1 proves something powerful — Hip-Hop doesn’t just evolve… it expands. When it collides with storytelling this beautifully crafted, the result is more than a comic.
